When you have a strong hand, you should raise it to price out weaker hands and get more value for your bets. If you have a weak or drawing hand, you should usually fold to avoid getting your money into a bad pot.
As a rule, you should never limp unless you have a very strong hand. Limping is a losing strategy that allows weak hands to win too often. If you play with better players, you can practice your skills without spending too much money.
If you are in late position, it is best to play tight. This will ensure that you only open with strong hands. When you are in early or middle position, however, you should be more loose.
Once the flop comes, you should bet on your strong hands and try to force other players out of their draws. This will increase your chances of making a great hand and increase the value of your bets. You should also watch out for other players who are trying to hero call you with mediocre hands. These players are chasing their draws and will cost you money in the long run.
